Wide Open Spaces

I was 21 years old when this song (and the Dixie Chicks) hit it big.  This song changed me - it accompanied my college roommate and me, our windows rolled down, on trips out from town where we could see for miles and, it seemed, our dreams could be bigger.  I am a person who wants stability but loves (almost thrives) on change. . .or is it just a little freedom?  My dream was never literal (perhaps one of my problems) and more about a feeling or lifestyle - a looseness that allows people to move, create, express. . . space, I guess.  The stuff this song is built on. . . And even now, a mere 14 years later (I'm looking 35 dead in the face.  It seems impossible). . . I'm still the same.  I still feel a little bit like a wide-eyed girl inside, working toward the right mix. . .a way to make, and leave my mark.  But now, it's less for me and more for my family.  To show them (especially buggers) that it's worth it.  Life has dinged me (hasn't it all of us?), and (eh-hem) my wide-eyes seem smaller and show some creases in the edges, but if I'm true to my core - my soul - I still hope for the same things.  Are we ever too old to let our dreams go?  I still feel the flutters in my belly this song gave me years ago.  I hope they never go away. (sorry about all the parentheses.) (I'm working on it)

  3. Wow, this post gave me goosebumps. My hubby is outside right now putting a battery in my dead 65 caddy that I took to one of there concerts almost 12 years ago, stuffed full of friends! Before marriage, before kids, before real worries. Eyes WIDE open. Wow, brings back memories of that night.

  4. I love your story - I'm so happy to know more. Isn't it amazing when experiences, even far removed, are so similar? And still moving for us all. . . thanks!
